Lentil Balls

Looking for vegetarian meatball alternatives, I often came across lentil balls. I can’t necessarily say that they would taste the same as meatballs, but in combination with a spicy paprika sauce and rice they are incredibly delicious. Also, they are made super fast and are really healthy: lentils are richer in protein than almost any other legume.

You need

  • 150 g Rice
  • 200 g Red Lentils
  • 2 Bell Peppers
  • 1 Chili
  • 1 Can Drained Tomatoes
  • 1 Onion
  • 3 Cloves Garlic
  • 3 TBSP Tomato Paste
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Paprika Powder
  • Basil

Here’s how to do it

  • Cook the rice and lentils according to the instructions on the packing.
  • Chop the onion and paprika finely and sauté in a pan. Then add the chili, the strained tomatoes, 2 cloves of garlic and spices and bring everything to the boil briefly.
  • Once the lentils are cooked, let them cool and then mix them with the tomato paste, the flour, the remaining clove of garlic and the spices until a sticky dough is formed.
  • Form small balls with your hands and put them in a casserole dish. Cover with the sauce and place in the oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes.
