This charming version of a classic affogato al caffè (Italian: drowned espresso) is especially great for coffee and nut lovers. In this recipe, a scoop of walnut ice cream “drowns” in the espresso and is then garnished with melted chocolate. Perfect for warm summer days!

You need

  • 2 Balls Walnut Ice Cream
  • 30 g Dark Chocolate
  • 1 Chunk Butter
  • 20 g Walnut Kernels
  • 2 Espressos

Here’s how to do it

  • First, melt the chocolate and butter in a hot water bath.
  • In the meantime, pick out the two nicest walnuts to garnish and cut the rest in halves.
  • Form two large walnut ice cream balls into a round shape and arrange each in a cup. Spread the walnut pieces over them and cover with the melted chocolate.
  • Finally, pour the hot espresso over the ice cream; decorate with whole walnuts.
